The African Sovereignty Coalition (ASCO) is a continental alliance committed to advancing solidarity, health justice, human rights, sovereignty, prosperity, and peace across Africa and its allies. ASCO currently has branches in South Africa and Kenya.
WHO WE ARE
FUTURE FOR AFRICA!
ASC is an ethical, independent, people-powered movement that brings together civil society, professionals, community organisers, traditional leaders, and change agents to co-create a future for Africa rooted in dignity and self-determination.We are writing to ask you to oppose amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005) currently being negotiated and due be adopted by May 2024, but may be adopted as early as May 2023. These amendments are being drafted at the same time as the WHO Pandemic Accord, but are distinct and not to be confused. IHR amendments are urgent.
BELIEVE!
We believe that Africa must lead in shaping its destiny — socio-politically, economically, culturally and spiritually — without coercion or interference from external powers. We will work with people and organisations who agree. The IHR amendments contain disturbing changes to the WHO’s role. Recommendations made by the WHO will become ‘binding’ on member states. The implications of these draft and secretive amendments are enormous for our country and will affect the lives of every single person living here. Interestingly, Africa performed the best over the C19 ‘pandemic’.

In South Africa, ASCO South Africa engages in:
- Public education, campaigns, and research
- Legal and policy advocacy, as well as consulting on various matters
- Solidarity actions with liberation struggles across Africa and the world
- Strategic partnerships with grassroots organisations, elders, and experts
- Community healing initiatives that integrate indigenous knowledge systems
